In actuality, each earring consists of 2 parts; a front and back piece. The front section of the earring features a surgical steel post. The back section has a shaft for the post to fit into. That means only the standard size post actually goes into the piercing. The large ornamental parts of the earrings rest against the skin making it look as if it your ear were gauged. To put them on: Pull the earring apart. Slide the post section into your piercing. Press the other half of the earring (with the shaft) onto the post. To remove the earrings, gently pull them apart.
